Adeyemi Babatunde, 28, was detained by Ogun State Police Command officers for allegedly defiling his five-year-old daughter.
After the victim's mother filed a report at the divisional office of Ijebu-Mushin, the offender was apprehended.
This was revealed in a statement on Thursday by SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state's police public relations officer.
According to Oyeyemi, the mother of the victim noted that her daughter had started complaining of pain whenever she needed to urinate.
According to the PPRO, the mother also bemoaned the fact that her daughter screams everytime she bathes her and touches a private area of her body.
"After noticing this, the victim's mother allegedly put pressure on the young girl to explain what had occurred to her private area.
Oyeyemi said “It was then the victim informed her that her father laid her on the bed and inserted his manhood into her private part when the mother was not at home.
Following the report, CSP Simire Hillary, the DPO for the Ijebu Mushin division, immediately dispatched his detectives to track down the culprit, who was ultimately taken into custody.
"During questioning, the suspect admitted to committing the crime but said he was unaware of what had happened to him at the time."
According to the PPRO, "Police Commissioner Olanrewaju Oladimeji has ordered that the suspect be sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department's Anti Human Trafficking and Child Labor unit for additional investigation and prosecution.
