The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, has stated that he is advocating for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in order to settle security challenges in the South East.
He restated his willingness to serve as a guarantor for Kanu if the federal government is willing to free him.
This was said by Soludo in an interview with Politics Today on Channels TV.
In June 2021, Nnamdi Kanu was re-arrested in Kenya and extradited to Nigeria after he skipped bail and fled the country.
The governor said that in a letter to President Buhari, he begged for Kanu's release, pointing out that some of the South East's security problems are a result of the IPOB leader's continuing arrest.
According to DailyTrust he said, “I copied the Attorney General in the letter I wrote to the President; but if the Buhari administration fails to release him, we will continue to pursue the issue with the incoming administration.
“Our interest in this case is simple: peace, security and development. If it’s because of the court process, you can release him as part of the conditions, hand him over to me. We will keep him. When you need him, we will release him and bring him to you. I will be the surety. I am prepared to do that.”
