On Thursday in Abuja, the President-elect Bola Tinubu pledged to uphold the confidence placed in him by both the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), and millions of Nigerians.
He further stated that he is aware of the gravity of the honor bestowed upon him and the equivalent duty that lies ahead.
Tinubu made the pledge during his acceptance speech at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja after receiving the National Honour of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic.
“I understand the magnitude of the honour conferred on me today and the task ahead. Nigerians deserve no less.
“You (Buhari) have charted the course and I shall not disappoint you,” he said.
Nelson Mandela of South Africa, the British monarch Queen Elizabeth II, and Muammar Gaddafi, the former leader of Libya, are among recipients of the title.
Kashim Shettima, the vice president-elect, was also given the title of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger by Buhari.
In accordance with Executive Order 14, which requires the transition council to deliver handover notes providing, among other things, proposed policy direction to the next administration, he earlier presented the president-elect with three important transition documents.
