British actor Julian Sands, who went missing five months ago, has potentially been connected to human remains discovered in the San Gabriel mountains.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department reported that hikers alerted authorities on the morning of June 24th after stumbling upon the remains in the Mount Baldy region.
Currently, the remains have been transferred to the Coroner's Office, where they await identification.
The department expects to conclude the identification process next week, at which point a press release will be issued.
Julian Sands, aged 65, disappeared on January 13th after failing to return from a hike in the Mount Baldy area of the southern Californian mountains.
Sands gained recognition for his notable roles in films such as A Room With A View, Leaving Las Vegas, and Warlock, as well as his appearances on television shows including 24, Smallville, and Banshee.
In a recent statement, Sands' family expressed their ongoing remembrance of him, keeping him “in our hearts with bright memories.”
A family statement issued on Wednesday read, “We are deeply grateful to the search teams and co-ordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian,”
“We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer.”
Despite the absence of any discoveries during the searches conducted on June 17th, the sheriff's department emphasizes that the investigation into Sands' disappearance remains active.
The spokesperson for the sheriff's department previously stated their commitment to providing closure for Sands' family.
