Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja |
The Nigerian Army asked the Northern Region's governors to grant their troops full permission to wipe out all the terrorists terrorizing their states.
The appeal was made by the Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja while hosting Zamfara State's recently inaugurated governor, Dauda Lawal.
While ruling out the notion of providing amnesty to bandits plaguing the country's northwestern region, Mr Lagbaja warned the offenders to quit the country immediately.
The army chief's revelation comes on the heels of former governor of the state, Sani Yerima, calling for bandits to be granted amnesty.
He claimed that the military would not let them enter other sections of the country.
He said, “Your Excellency, I think we need to look at this amnesty programme. The criminal elements have proven to be incorrigible. So, the issue of amnesty has created avenue for them to be regroup and re-organise and launch attacks.”
